Privacy policy

This policy explains what Farfield Labs LLC ("we", "us"), which operates citecheck at citecheck.me, collects, why, who we share it with, and the choices you have. It applies to the site and the service. Using citecheck is also covered by our terms of service.

1. What we collect

  • Account details. Your email address. If you sign in with Google, also your name and profile picture from your Google account. You can change the name in Settings.
  • What you enter. The names, websites, categories, descriptions, locations, competitors, other names and questions you put into audits.
  • Results. The answers AI assistants give, the pages they cite, and the scores and reports built from them.
  • Usage and technical information. Our hosting and database providers keep technical logs, such as IP address, browser type, pages requested and times. We also keep a record of the AI calls made for your account and what they cost, so we can enforce plan limits.
  • Cookies and browser storage. We use cookies to keep you signed in and to remember where to take you after you sign in. They are needed for the service to work. We don't use advertising cookies. Your browser's local storage keeps small preferences, such as alerts you have marked handled.

We may use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits. It doesn't use cookies.

2. How we use it

  • to run the service, including running audits and building reports;
  • to sign you in and send you sign-in links;
  • to enforce plan limits, prevent abuse and keep the service secure;
  • to answer you when you contact us;
  • to understand how the service is used and improve it;
  • to meet legal obligations.

Where the law asks for a legal basis, we rely on providing the service you asked for, our legitimate interests in running and securing it, legal obligations, and your consent where we ask for it.

3. Who we share it with

  • AI providers. To run an audit, we send the questions and your subject's details (name, website, category, description, location and competitors) to AI providers, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and DeepSeek, and, when they are switched on, Perplexity, xAI and Mistral. We may also read your subject's public website to write better questions. We don't send your email address to AI providers. Each provider handles this data under its own terms and policies, and some process it outside the United States; DeepSeek, for example, processes data in China.
  • Service providers. Supabase stores our database, handles sign-in and sends sign-in emails. Cloudflare hosts the site. Google handles sign-in if you choose Google. They process data for us under their own terms.
  • People you share with. Anyone with a share link can read that report, including the subject's name and category, the questions, the answers and the scores. You can stop sharing at any time.
  • Legal and safety reasons. When the law requires it, or to protect the rights, property or safety of citecheck, our users or others.
  • Business transfers. If Farfield Labs is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, data may be transferred as part of it.

We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

4. How long we keep it

We keep your account and audit data while your account is open. You can delete individual reports in the app at any time.

If you ask us to delete your account at hello@citecheck.me, we delete your account and audit data within 30 days, except where we must keep something to meet a legal obligation, resolve a dispute or enforce our terms. Records of what AI calls cost may be kept for accounting, without a link to deleted reports. Backups are overwritten on a rolling basis.

5. Your choices and rights

  • Export. Download all your data as a CSV file from Settings.
  • Correct. Change your name in Settings.
  • Delete. Delete reports in the app, or email hello@citecheck.me to delete your account.

Depending on where you live, including California, the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, you may have the right to know, access, correct, delete or port your personal information, to object to or restrict how we use it, and not to be treated differently for using these rights. To use them, email hello@citecheck.me. We'll verify the request and reply within the time the law requires. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

6. Security

We use reasonable measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls that keep each account's data to its owner. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.

7. International transfers

We are based in the United States. Your information is processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers and AI providers operate.

8. Children

citecheck is for businesses and people aged 18 or over. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you think we have, email hello@citecheck.me and we'll delete it.

9. Changes

We'll post any changes to this policy on this page and update the date at the top. If a change is material, we'll give notice before it takes effect.
