Terms of service

1. What citecheck does

citecheck asks AI assistants, such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok, Le Chat and DeepSeek, the kind of questions a buyer might ask. It records their answers and the pages they cite, and scores how often a product, service or place is recommended.

Answers come from each vendor's API, with web search on where the API offers it. They are close to what the vendors' consumer apps say, but not identical. Which assistants are available depends on your plan and on what we have switched on at the time.

2. Your account

• You must be at least 18 and able to form a binding contract.
• Give accurate information, and keep the way you sign in (your email account or Google account) secure. You are responsible for everything done through your account.
• An account is for one person unless your plan says otherwise.
• Tell us at hello@citecheck.me straight away if you think someone else has access to your account.

3. Your content

"Your content" is what you put into citecheck: names, websites, categories, descriptions, locations, competitors, other names and questions.

• You keep ownership of your content. You give us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, copy, process and transmit it, including sending it to AI providers, as needed to run, secure and improve the service.
• You confirm that you have the rights to your content and that entering it doesn't break any law or anyone else's rights.
• Don't put confidential information, other people's personal information or sensitive information into an audit. It is sent to third-party AI providers.
• You are responsible for the subjects and competitors you enter, and for having a lawful reason to audit them.

4. Results, scores and fixes

citecheck reports what AI assistants said at the moment they were asked. AI assistants make mistakes, change without notice and give different answers to the same question. Results, scores, rankings, citations and suggested fixes are estimates, provided for information only. They are not legal, financial, marketing or other professional advice.

We don't guarantee any outcome, including visibility in AI assistants, rankings, traffic, leads, sales or revenue. You decide what to do with the results, and you are responsible for those decisions.

Results may name or describe other businesses. Those statements come from third-party AI assistants, not from us, and we don't check them. Don't present them as verified facts. If you use results in advertising, comparisons or any public claim, you are responsible for making sure that use is accurate and lawful.

5. Share links

A share link lets anyone who has it read that report without an account, including the subject's name, the questions, the answers and the scores. You decide when to create and send a share link, and you are responsible for who you send it to. You can stop sharing at any time, after which the link stops opening. We can't control copies someone made before then.

6. Third-party services

citecheck depends on other companies' services, including AI providers (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, Perplexity, xAI and Mistral), Supabase and Cloudflare. Those services can change, fail or stop, and we are not responsible for them. A call to an AI provider that fails is reported as failed and left out of the score.

citecheck is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any AI provider. Their names and products are trademarks of their owners.

7. Plans, fees and limits

• The free plan has limits, such as the number of audits a day. We may change the limits of any plan.
• If you buy a paid plan, you agree to pay the fees shown when you buy, plus any applicable taxes. Paid plans renew automatically at the end of each billing period until you cancel. Cancelling takes effect at the end of the current period.
• Features described as coming, or not switched on yet, are not part of what you buy until they are switched on, and we make no commitment about when that will be.
• Except where the law requires otherwise, fees are non-refundable.
• We may change prices for future billing periods. We'll give you at least 30 days' notice before a change applies to you.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• break any law or regulation, or infringe anyone's rights, including intellectual property, privacy and publicity rights;
• use citecheck to harass, defame or harm any person or business, or to produce spam or misleading content;
• get around limits, quotas, rate limits, spending caps or security, including by opening more than one free account;
• access the service by automated means, such as scrapers or bots, except through an interface we publish for that purpose;
• copy, sell, resell, rent or sublicense the service, or use it to build a competing product, without our written permission;
• reverse engineer or decompile the service, or try to extract its source code, prompts or scoring, except where the law allows it;
• upload malware, or interfere with, overload or disrupt the service or the systems it runs on;
• use the service in a way that breaks an AI provider's usage policies;
• enter other people's personal information, or sensitive information such as health or financial data, into an audit.

We may investigate suspected misuse, remove content and suspend access to protect the service, other users or anyone else.

9. Our property

citecheck, including its software, design, text, scoring method and report format, belongs to Farfield Labs LLC and its licensors. Apart from the limited right to use the service under these terms, you get no rights in it. If you send us feedback or ideas, we may use them without owing you anything.

10. Suspension and termination

You can stop using citecheck at any time, and you can ask us to delete your account at hello@citecheck.me. We may suspend or end your access, with or without notice, if you break these terms, if your use creates risk or possible legal exposure for us or anyone else, or if we stop offering the service.

Sections that by their nature should continue after termination do so, including those on your content licence, results, our property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, indemnity and disputes.

11. Disclaimers

The service, including all results, scores and suggested fixes, is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied or statutory, including any warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, and uninterrupted or error-free operation. We do not warrant that results are accurate, complete or current, or that the service will meet your needs.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Farfield Labs LLC and its members, managers, employees, contractors and suppliers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, business, goodwill, data or opportunity, arising out of or relating to the service, the results or these terms, whatever the legal theory and even if we were told such damages were possible.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, our total liability for all claims arising out of or relating to the service, the results or these terms is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the service in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or US$100.

Some places don't allow some of these exclusions or limits. Where that's the case, they apply to the fullest extent the law allows.

13. Indemnity

You will defend, indemnify and hold harmless Farfield Labs LLC and its members, managers, employees, contractors and suppliers from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or relating to your content, your use of the service or its results, your breach of these terms, or your violation of any law or anyone else's rights. This includes claims made by businesses you audit or enter as competitors.

14. Changes

We may change, add or remove features of the service at any time. We may also update these terms. If a change is material, we'll give notice on the site or by email before it takes effect. If you keep using citecheck after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms.

15. Disputes, arbitration and class action waiver

• Governing law. These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules.
• Talk to us first. Before bringing a claim, email hello@citecheck.me with a description of the dispute. We'll try to resolve it informally within 60 days.
• Arbitration. Any dispute arising out of or relating to the service or these terms that isn't resolved informally will be settled by binding individual arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association under its applicable rules, held in San Francisco, California, or by video. Either party may instead bring an individual claim in small claims court, and either party may ask a court for an injunction to protect intellectual property.
• No class actions. You and we may bring claims only individually, not as a plaintiff or class member in any class, collective or representative proceeding. An arbitrator may not combine claims of more than one person.
• Opting out. You can opt out of arbitration by emailing hello@citecheck.me within 30 days of first accepting these terms.
• Courts. If arbitration doesn't apply, disputes go to the state or federal courts in San Francisco County, California, and you and we consent to their jurisdiction.
• Time limit. Where the law allows, a claim must be brought within one year after it arises.

16. General

• These terms and the privacy policy are the whole agreement between you and us about the service.
• If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest still applies.
• If we don't enforce a right, that isn't a waiver of it.
• You may not transfer these terms without our written consent. We may transfer them as part of a merger, acquisition or sale of assets.
• Neither of us is liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond reasonable control.
• You agree to receive notices and communications from us electronically.
• You confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a US embargo and are not on a US list of restricted parties.
